The Bullough Park ‘Family Trees’ community orchard has been mulched today, with the help of a new assistant … THE PURPLE PERIL!
That’s right, our famous wheelbarrow The Pink Peril now has a sister.
A few owners of these beautiful Family Trees (planted at Bullough Park’s old bowling green back in November) came down to help move two truckloads of woodchip and spread it around the bases of the 37 trees.
Woodchip mulch not only suppresses weeds, but keeps the roots cool and damp in drought, reduces the effects of frost in winter, and eventually feeds the tree when the chip biodegrades.
Thank you to our volunteers for your dedication, Hyndburn Borough Council for supplying the chip and funding the TreeACTION Project, and Trees for Cities for funding the purchase of the family trees.
